If you're financially stretched, check out the digital art programs at your local communnity college... the costs will be partly susidized by Uncle Sam if you qualify, and the rest can be taken out as loans (think of it as an investment in your fuutre).

From there, you may be able to transfer to a private college or instead, go to private college yourself straight... you need a good portfolio and attitude to get into an art school though. Again, scholarships an loans, work at it.

Get an asso in graphics, work in a movie studio for some cash (they always need digital cleaners and other grunt work), and who knows what could come next. The main thing is to get somewhere where the jobs are, meeting people in the graphics field that could lead you to your next job.

You should look into a Pell grant and get back into school if you can. A two year degree at a junior or community college in industrial technology plus your experience will open some doors for you. Obviously you could make more money with a 4 yr Engineering degree. When I got into the field I was still going to school and managed to get my first job without the degree, but the job market in this area is much tighter now. There are so many people with degrees in this area now, it is hard to even get and interview if you don't have a degree. I finished my Associates degree while I was employed by one company and I'm still working on a Bachelors degree. You will find if you get in with the right company that many companies have reimbursement plans and will help you with your schooling expenses. A good goal may be to find a company you want to work for and take any entry level opening they have, and then work on getting into the position you want.
