Most of the 'free' activities in orlando/kissimmee are shopping excursions. lake buena vista/disney downtown is nice to shop for disney merchandise at disney prices without going to a disney park.

There are outlet malls on international drive in orlando offering discounted prices.

Celebration,a 'disney' town on 192 is a nice drive through and... they used to generate a fake snowfall on the weekends but i don't know if they do that anymore.

'Old Town' might be right up your alley as it's a recreation of a small old town right on 192 less than a mile east of I-4. It has a 'biker' cruise through town on thursday night and a car cruise on friday and saturday night usually entailing anywhere from 50 to 250 cars depending on whether there is a visiting car club that really is neat. it also has gokart rides, florida's largest skycoaster and a small 'carnival' at the back. if you're RVing, you could stay at Tropical Palms RV resort directly behind Old Town also.

Just an hour east is Cocoa Beach,a wonderful old florida town with Ron Jon's surf shop (the largest on the east coast),wonderful uncrowded beaches and a great restaurant on the pier.

Immediately north of Cocoa Beach is Kennedy Space Center with tours of the facilities by bus,a 'rocket garden' and maybe even a shuttle launch(check schedule). You can watch the launch from KSC if you ask for tickets early enough or watch from the 528 causeway just south of KSC.

Melbourne,FL,east on 192 to the ocean(about an hour)also offers a nice zoo, several nice restaurants, great fishing and nice beaches...

Well, if you feel like taking a bit of a drive then Celebration is a great place to visit. It is just outside Lake Buena Vista and is one of the most perfect towns I have been to (gardens and white picket fences, and everyone rides around in electric cars). Also, Downtown Disney is free to get into and is a great place to shop and people watch.

St. Augustine is a nice place to go to, if not to buy stuff and eat, just to look around. They have a lot of history, especially near the rivers and in the surrounding communities.
