The Draft in American Football is where NFL teams get to pick players for the next season from the available pool, usually mostly of USFL college players. The team who was rubbish last season (like Won 2 lost 14) gets first pick in the Draft and so on. There's usually three rounds. These new players will either be high school leavers or college players, in the NBA international players are also subject to the draft. The NFL draft has seven rounds each day over two days so 14 rounds in all, MLB has a whooping 50 rounds, so it's 25 rounds over two days. After that the rules are the same.

A rookie is someone playing in their first season in the professional game at the top level. So in the NFL and NBA, a rookie is a first year player whereas in MLB a rookie could've been playing several years in the 'Minor Leagues' before reaching the Major Leagues.
