Currants are fruits of the genus Ribes. Grapes are in the genus Vitis. However, there is a variety of grape called Zante Currant that is a grape and not a true currant.

grapes are fruits ,currants are dried grapes .
grapes are enjoyed best when fresh ,currants are enjoyed mostly as garnish in puddings & sweet dishes
