Hi my astra is making noice and i have been adviced to get the Tappet settings. can anyone help me

car is
Vaux Astra , 1995, N REG, Diesel, 1.7 Turbo Diesel. 5Dr Hatch

Tappets are hydraulic on this engine,so arent adjustable,sorry. Usually cam shaft and followers that need replacing can be expensive

All vauxhaull engines built aftr 1990 were fitted with hydraulic tappets. No adjustments can be made. Sounds like it's time to have them replaced.

advice already given is correct. if there is no visable wear on the camshaft and followers has the head been machined and the valves not set down to original depth or has the camshaft pully been removed and camshaft timing not set up with a jig and dial gauge. the pully is not keyed onto camshaft (tipex marking is not accurate enough) both of there can cause valves to hit pistons and clatter

sorry but the tappets are not adjustable on this model they are hydraulic and work on oil pressure

Check your oil level and make sure the filter has been changed at the recommended intervals, also check that you are using the correct oil.
