Excellent question. People today, especially younger people are so enamored by these celebrities. Why? Almost all of them are losers in some form or another. They are hounded by the press for everything. I am baffled. Why do people need to have their photo, or something they have their name on, or their autograph? Its not going to make you any cooler, smarter, richer, and they will never be your "friend". Personally, I'd concentrate my attention and efforts on something or someone much more positive, constructive, and who would be of true tangable benefit to myself.

I could care less about movie stars. They are just people like you and I. Just add millions of dollars to the person.

A reporter was sent to interview an Olympic athlete. To understand what the sportsman was like, the reporter asked "Which film star do you like the best?"
The Olympian got angry.
"What? Those guys just pretend to be great people. They take hours to make a 10 second bit of film. Those guys try to pretend to be like people like me. We are real, not them. You should be asking them, which sporting star do they like the most!"

No, we are pathetic.
One reason is because the general public likes to see rich, famous people have their name dragged through the mud, humiliated, etc. because it makes us feel better about ourselves.
Second, for those who actually "worship" movie stars, they do so because knowing more about their lives makes them feel as special as the media treats them.

I'm so sick of how American society puts celebs on such a high pedestal. We don't care about anyone dying or suffering from a certain disease until a celeb gets it. We care way too much about what celebs have to say about the most mundane topics.

it can't be considered as something boring
when you see some star that you really like for whatever reason people like to know more about that person...it's a natural thing...you think they're good people without even knowing them..and you feel as if you know them and so on

It distracts many from examining their own miserable situations, and possibly it helps them feel superior...
in other words, "Well at least I haven't shaved my head and spun through the rehab revolving door eighty six times."
