When I was in my early 30s, I went to the doctor for a toenail virus. They ran over $700 in blood tests, decided I had everything from kidney failure (due to menstrual blood in my urine) to a bunch of other things, and the doctor prescribed several drugs that contradicted eachother. I went off the meds I was taking and never filled the other ones. I've never felt better...and this was like 4 years ago. I recently took a physical and got a clean bill of health.

Consider why they are taking those 30 pills. If they are getting advice from a "modern" medical doctor, they are being treated with the knowledge of modern medicine. This means they are being druged. When doctors go to school they are constantly taught to use drugs to solve physical illness. Drugs are their mantra. So when the elderly go to these doctors they are advised to take drugs to fight the illness. Traditional healers rely on herbs and energy balancing to cure the manifested problems. It's not surprising that the elderly are taking so many pills. They don't know how to resolve the physical problems. That's why they go to doctors. It's the fix me generation. The older generations grew up using lots of cigarettes and alcohol. The current generation is addicted to recreation plants and drugs. Now the attitude is, "I want to learn how to do it myself."

Some of them are doing it to live, period. Some are doing it to live better. It's not just the elderly either. Various chronic illnesses can cause even a young person to be on various pills. Why question it? Often these pills are increasing their quality of life...so yeah, it probably is a good way to live, for them.

Iam not elderlybut have to take alot of pills that are prescribed . yes it is better for me to take the medicine and live a good life. than to live a short miserable life and then die early. It would be nice if they could come up with a cure for all my illnesses so i wouldnt have to take alot of pills. without the pills i would have already died. This way I can live a pleasant life and take a lot of meds. or i can not take the pills and die. i think them is the better life in my case,
