Synthetic oil is designed to withstand more heat and use, therefore it doesn't break down as fast as a synthetic blend or conventional oil. A synthetic blend is what most places are using now simply because new cars/trucks are being built with smaller clearences and its what they are putting in the engine from the factory and manufacturers are now recommending oil changes every 4 months or 5,000 miles vs. the older 3months or 3,000 miles.

A good engine oil can ensure better protection and lubrication which in turn will ensure a better and longer last engine as long as you keep up with your other maintences.

Got this straight from a mechanic friend of mine -- synthetic motor oil is very good at protecting certain engine parts and reducing engine wear (which will make your engine last longer) but it's not the be-all-end-all it has been made out to be. Regular motor oil protects engine bearings better than synthetic, according to my friend. That's why he recommends a blend like Valvoline DuraBlend. It's less expensive than 100% synthetic motor oil and it gives you the best of both worlds. I have used Valvoline DuraBlend on my car, which I have had for six years and have had ZERO engine trouble.

Longer eng life; better fuel economy, synthetic oils are much more stable under extreme hot and cold conditions. Better able to keep particulates suspended; flow much better in cold climates; and the list goes on. plus; at least twice the service life of reg. oils. Synthetics are really cheaper in the long run.

Synthetic is supposed to lubricate better, last longer, hold more dirt, remove heat better. It is costly and very thin. If there is any weakness at all in an engine, the oil will leak.

Regular oil is cost effective. If you change oil and filter regularly, every 3,000 miles, your engine will perform well for hundreds of thousands of miles.

synthetic oil is much better than any mineral oil n semi-synthetic oil cos of quality which is added in chemicals n got proven test that ur car performance is better n less repair, but it can't be used in new car.only use 4 15000km above n u only change oil after every 20000km.

synthetic oil lessens friction and decreases engine wear. It also can last longer than regular oil. don't combine regular with synthetic or go back and forth as this can cause caking, oil consumption, blowby. some may be noticed when you first change over, but should go away with next oil change.

When synthetic oils have been in use as long as petroleum based oils, then maybe someone can answer your question.

instead of changing your oil every 3 months like you would have to with regular oil. With synthetic oil you can wait up to a year to change it.
