A good one but not at all respected. Charles gets almost zero respect from the populous now, I don't see that changing becuase it's him wearing the crown suddenly

Once he becomes king - and this talk of the Queen choosing William instead is ill-informed nonsense - he will have come to the throne following more controversy and endured more calumny than any previous monarch. Others like George IV and Richard III had had scandals both personal and more serious, but it was different in an age when people had more inherent deference towards the crown, there was no mass media, and 'popularity' was irrelevant. I don't think Charles is as bad as a lot of people on this site do, but anticipate that the standing of the institution will suffer when someone enjoying less respect than the Queen or any of her immediate predecessors did (in 1936 people did not know what Edward VIII was really like) assumes the throne.
Unless there is some major change of attitude, then he will not be as respected a king as Britain has had in a long time.

The Queen will be on the Throne until she Dies just like Victoria
Then Charles will most likely do the same then William
That is how it is and how it should be, Charles is a good person so why wouldn't he make a good king!

Prince Charles is a much maligned man, largely due to his ex wife's vindictivee behaviour. He cares a great deal for this country, which is more than you can say for the Government, and his Prince's Trust has changed the life of thousands from deprived backgrounds. Yes, he can be difficult at times - can't we all? However, his essential kindness and decency far exceeds his occasional gaffes.

Not only will HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales be a respected King of England, he will also be very popular. His popularity grows by the hour. He is very much involved with 'green issues' which are of interest to the British people. He is already seen as a leader King on being 'green'.
In addition to all of the above, the Prince of Wales has done wonderful work through his charity, The Prince of Wales Trust, which has enabled thousands of young people to reach their full potential, improve their skills and obtain jobs which they may only have dreamt of before being helped by this wonderful Trust.
God Save the Queen

First, I doubt whether William will get the throne after the Queen. It doesn't work like that, the Queen can't just nominate William unless Charles steps back completely and hands it over to his son. I think it's more likely that William will sit on the throne sooner than thought because his father is not the youngest.
Second, I think Charles is very intelligent and underrated. One cannot blame him for things gond wrong in his life. You can't plan whom you love. His opinions might make people a bit uncomfortable. So the general public has a very negative view of him due to the media and Diana. It will not be very easy when he ascends the throne, he has to show his colours to the public first, gain their trust, and then gradually I think people will respect him more. He might be more inclined to voice his political opinions which I think is good, someone has to speak out if the government is terrible! This will not make him very popular with some officials.

Assuming a British King is just an illiterate figurehead, Lady Camilla creates a better impression for her husband than Lady Diana. Lady Diana was too tall for Prince Charles and it made it look like she was a moneygrubber that had to wear hats to make it look like she was feminine next to someone who was only 5'10". Either that or it was an arranged marriage! Lady Camilla Bowes is a more suitable height for him!

He'd be a total laughingstock; not happening, would be the final blow to the British Monarchy. Queen Elizabeth is showing no signs of ill health, I think she'll hang in there long enough for Charles to be too old, and for William to be King. She only needs to hold up 10 more years, and she becomes the longest reigning Momarch in British history (current record :64 years, Queen Victoria)

I think he will be respected. He does a lot of good work, but that isn't what makes the headlines. He has had a really rough life, and I have a lot of sympathy for him. If he had been allowed to grow up in a normal way, like Harry and Wills, things would have been a lot different for him.
Don't forget King Edward VII, whom everyone said would be despised as king (including his mother, Queen Victoria!), but he was an outstanding success when he came to the throne. His gift for diplomacy and bringing people together was exactly what was needed at that time period, just prior to WWI.

I think Charles is a good man. Since a certain decision he took as a young man in the 1970s (upon the advice of his grandmother, the Queen Mother), it has been open season on the Prince of Wales. His marriage with Diana was doomed from the start.
He has had a lot to put up with over the years and these experiences will make him a more thoughtful, wiser person and monarch.

No, he's demented. That's why the Queen won't step down. She knows he would make a lousy King. She's holding out for William or Harry to be ready.
