This is actually a common misconception. For whatever reason, it has been popularized that the direction in which water drains is due to the distance from the equator. The Coriolis Effect is often referred to in this case, but in reality, it only affects large masses such as the direction hurricanes spin in the northern vs southern hemispheres. Household drains are too small to be affected. The shape of the sink and location of the water source are more likely to influence the spin direction of drainage.

It may sound silly, but the rotation of the toilet water during flushing is based on the location of the country's location of a hemisphere. It is based on and it rotates opposite the rotation of the earth as viewed upon the pole itself. So yes, it is.

Yes, it's true. It depends what hemisphere you are in. I believe it has something to do with the pull of gravity, but I'm not sure.
