Because that's the conclusion they have come to based on scientific evidence and deductive reasoning. I can't say that I follow this particular topic, but cannot understand truly what a scientist has to gain by saying something contradictory to the Bible. If the evidence pointed to 6000 years I can't imagine what a scientist gains by saying it is 50000 years.
As much as creation theorists claim there doesn't have to be a clash between science and religon. I think the bottom line is that there is . . . They are not mutually exclusive, but one is a faith, believing without seeing, in God and one is a faith (and I truly believe it is a faith sometimes) in science.
One theory and I personally think this is a bit strange, but it is that God made the Earth to appear older than it is.

Because scientists use circular reasoning. The geolical column does not exist anywhere in the world, it's basically a bible for the evolutionist. They date the rocks by the fossils and date the fossils by the rocks. Take a fossil to be dated and the first thing they will ask you is which layer of rock you found it, now they have a pre-concieved date that they gear their tests to show. If they can't get close enough to their pre chosen date then they tell you the sample is contaminated and must be as old as they say. The population growth curve easily shows we could have all come from 8 folks getting off a boat about 4400 years ago. The fact that we find millions of fossils all over the world is proof for the flood, if something just dies and falls on the ground it rots. Fossils form in mud. Evolution is a religion, it takes faith to believe we came from a rock just like it takes faith to believe in the Bible. The Bible hasn't been proven wrong and evolution hasn't been proven right, but evolutionists have to have all those long ago and far away dates to support their stupid theory. I think the dates in the Bible are correct and 6000 years is pretty close.

a million.6 milliseconds would not characterize signficant shortening take (24 hours * 60 minutes*60secs*one thousand milliseconds) minus a million.6 and divide by utilising (24 hours * 60 minutes*60secs*one thousand milliseconds). in case you do the maths my chum the day is now ninety 9.999998% of what it was once. Are you heavily telling us this is signficant--it is not even discernable without instrumentation lol. this is why your prophecy crap is definitely crap. the days get longer or shorter while earthquakes happen, reckoning on the place and how deep they're while they happen--and an analogous possibilities carry. This has exceeded off for the final 2000 years. while Krakatoa enable loose 2 centuries in the past it did an analogous factor--does this mean your stupid crap neglected the top of the worldwide then?

Fossil evidence
In actuality scientists estimate hominid species have been around for over 4.4 million-year-old, fossils were found of bipedal hominid dated to 4.4 million years in Ethiopia
for Homo Sapiens it is now 195,000 years ago.
For modern man, Geologist Frank Brown, dean of mines and Earth sciences at the University of Utah, made the discovery in Ethiopia's Kibish rock formation, where Brown and colleagues determined that fossilized bones of Homo sapiens were 195,000 years old
The bibles account is based on Genesis which is attributed to Moses and its interpretation and was based on creation occuring at 4004 BC, around 6011 years ago. This was based on Moses lists of Ancestors from creation to King David

There are things in the Bible that have been proven to be false by scientists. Humans do not descend from Adam and Eva, and we have been around for a lot more than 6000 years.
The proof that scientists have are the multiple human remains that have been found and dated. Even if I agree that the Bible is mostly the written word of God, it can't be forgotten that it was also supposed to tell a story in a time when literacy was very low. This means that metaphores were used and taking them literally is dangerous and leads to wrong assumptions.

The Bible doesn't say we've been around 6000 years. Some biblical researcher decided that number based on doing a backward count of all the generations of people listed in the bible.
The second part of the answer is that science is based on evidence, whereas the bible is a series of stories and parables.

The earliest Homo sapiens specimen ever found was approximately 150,000 years old, not 50,000.
Using the geneology of Christ, biblical scholars estimate the universe to be approximately 6,000 years old, with all earth life the same age, minus 6 days, assuming that Genesis is literal and accurate. Genesis is accurate, but not literal.
Genesis is an allegory.
Some scholars prefer to extend the age of the earth to be about 40,000 years old, but this is more a compromise than an actual timeline gleened from scripture.
Either way, it is way off by more than 4 billion years.

Egyptian settlement of the Nile delta alone spans as far back as 5000 bc, a whopping extra 1000 yrs from the bible's claims to life.
Mayan settlers settlers around 11000 bc, way further back.
The Bible is a book. It has no scientific evidence to back up its claim to a 6000 yr timeline, and is easily disputed by archaeological evidence.

The evidence for human existence lies in fossil remains in rocks going back over 2 million years, and subsequent evidence of their existence in rocks and lake beds etc show how they have evolved and migrated around the world. The Bible is a story handed down by priests and religious people, and then people who want tobelieve in this story do so.... to put it very simply!

I could write down in a book now that computers are the rulers of the world and we are nothing but slaves but 2000 years from now will that make it true? The bible is nothing but writing, no evidence, no logic, no nothing...A big man in the sky (strikingly similar to zeus and the lesser gods (ie apostles)) made everything
