I think I know why. They want to fight them closer to home so we will save money by not having to transport our men and supplies somewhere else. All the money they save on the transport costs can go into their welfare programs which will gain them many votes which is job security.

Well you wouldn't need to spend all that money on transport. We could do overland trucking and buses to deploy our troops. St. Louis has a high crime rate anyway so who would notice.
