Discipline is learned in a loving family unit. Absent fathers after casual sex lead to the resulting children adopting their older gang member peers as their'family' No wonder crime is out of control. These kids have no guidance on normal living. The Christian church is right. No sex before a marriage. It would solve a lot of problems.
However that doesn't answer the present situation. Zero tolerance by police, a scrapping of the present human rights laws which badly need amending. This will allow children to be properly disciplined instead of indulged. Bringing back discipline in schools where bad behaviour will not be tolerated. Am on a short meal break from work so will have to leave it there.

I've lived in South London for nearly all my life and been mugged a good few times as a result. But i don't feel like a victim of crime. I've never encountered a real gun in London and I don't think it's a serious issue. At the end of the day there has been a spark up of gun crime in the past month that will die down with greater police controls that have been installed, the problem will dissolve into history soon enough.

Gun crime is not just in the London area. Manchester has its fair share and right now, Leeds has more than its fair share. But that has been going on for 20 years. Granted there is a lot of publicity about London because of the age of both the victims and the perps. I guess that drugs are behind most of the shootings. Blaming the lack of a father is rather too easy, though I expect it plays a role. But where are the leisure facilities for youngsters. Why not have activity centres for such as rebuilding cars from scratch, even racing them under strict supervision. More roller-blading arenas, anything which will occupy the minds of young people. Much of the above relates to boys but I can think of things for girls, too if they don't fancy any of the above. It's a very big subject and a few lines does not do justice but I think it is solvable!

I don't know what people think, but I can offer one solution: Arm the populace. Every home should have at least one firearm, and a person trained to use it. Getting yelled at for assaulting someone is not a deterrent, getting shot dead is.

I live is a small town in Tennessee [U.S.]. EVERYONE is armed. Since 1992, the crime rate here is zero. The last occured in 1992 when an escaped convict broke into an occupied home and was promptly shot dead.

In cictes like London, each home should have a 12 gauge shotgun. Deadly for intruders, not likely to kill neighbors with stray lead.

whenever we hear about it on the news (outside of London ) it mostly seems to be in the black communities. knowing this as the government have said they should combat it without being PC about it. if it was white middle class causing most of the gun crime they wouldn't hesitate to wade in and kick doors in.

they need to get more and better trained police in there and crack down hard by this i mean give them 20 -30 years for having a gun regardless of age. we all know the only way to get 1 in the UK is by illegal means so they have NO EXCUSE

I am sick of it, like most, I am also amazed that despite the rising frequency of shootings, of sons, daughters etc dying in their beds, that I read posts from people who don't want to take responsibility and constantly try to DETRACT FROM the real issue of gun crime. Take responsibility - it's a lack of responsibility that started it off, from within families.

Life is what you make of it, living on an estate or being poor does not make anyone into a gun toting murderous thug. Parents have to be answerable for their children's behaviour and take responsibility to teach their children that life is valuable.

I'm all for zero tolerance - it needs to come in to turn the cities around.

Its the culture that needs to be changed. Putting more police with guns is a short-term solution. And they are not everywhere where the kids are. They are roaming the streets but not the clubs, estates and homes. The problem needs to be solved from a young age, at home.

How is this possible? I thought guns were outlawed in the UK?
Everyone knows that gun laws reduce if not eliminate gun crime altogether!

Simple. Put all the chavs and gangsters on a boat and send it to the other side of the world.

No wait didn't we already do that with Australia?
