Yes, the onboard sound card will actually support 5.1 or 7.1 surround. You do this in one of two ways.

If your speakers include a digital 5.1 processor, you can simply connect the S/PDIF digital IN on the speaker processor to the S/PDIF OUT (orange jack under the printer port) on the back panel.

If you are using a standard 5.1 speaker set with 3 'headphone' plugs, then (on the 6-jack audio block on the back panel)you plug the front speakers into the GREEN jack, and the rear speakers into the BLACK jack. If your center speaker is plugged into your subwoofer, you can plug the subwoofer right into the ORANGE jack. If the center speaker does NOT connect to the sub (rare if you bought a 5.1 speaker set), then you will need a stereo jack splitter. (not a Y-cable, you need an adapter that splits the jack into separate left and right jacks) You plug the center speaker into the LEFT jack, and the Sub into the RIGHT jack.

You will also need to install the audio control program that comes on the motherboard's driver CD, and enable 6 channel sound processing. Windows only has support for the front speakers so your surround won't work unless you install the control program and drivers.
