I bought a used car 7 months ago and the last thing he said to me before he handed the keys over to me was, "If there's anything you need to ask about the car, don't hesitate to ring or email". I was pleased with this. Four months on from my car purchase, I emailed and asked him what winter checks I should make with my car. I didn't get a reply. 2 weeks ago, someone dented and scratched the side of my car and so I called in person to the salesman and asked him where I can get some paint from. He said he'd get me the paint and promised me he'd ring me this Tuesday. He never rang. I emailed him to say that I'd get the paint instead myself, and reminded him that he was supposed to get back to me. Still haven't heard. What's wrong with these people?

Once you have left the salesroom after handing over your cash, their job is done.
they are only pleased to see you again when you are buying another car.
Best find a local independant garage to look after your car, they will build a rapport and want you to come back for repeat business. Best ask your friends / colleagues who services/maintains their cars. Best garages generally don't need to advertise - since word of mouth can make or break you!

To be blunt, they don't need your continued custom. This sort of behaviour isn't just limited to car salepersons - it can be seen in many trades where most of their profit is made from an intial sale.

In fact, in some situations it would might cost them money to sell you certain consumables because the profit margin on those items would be lower than the labour cost of the amount of time the person spent dealing with you.

Put another way, it's more economical for a person to sell two cars to two different people (perhaps with lousy service ensuring neither of them return) than it is to sell one car to one person, and then sell that person cheap, low-profit-making parts on an ad-hoc basis over the course of a year or two.

Horrible bunch of people. I have never ever met a saleman who sells car who is honest. There job is to sell you a car and they will go to great lenghts to assure you nothing will be to much of a problem for them should you need any help once you have signed on the dotted line. They are slimy, smooth-talking and liars. I detest them and dislike them for the way they treat you once the deal is done. They are all like that and i would love to know if anyone has ever dealt with a honest-to-goodness salesman.:)))

it has nothing to do with the salesman. if the car he sold you was defective i could see your point. 1 of the joys of car owner ship is maintenance and dealing with damage other selfish people do. your best bet would be to purchase a haynes manual and that will tell you all the weekly and winter checks you should do to your car. they normally go for around £19

The way they see it, you own the car now and its your problem.

Take these minor things to a reliable auto mechanic, rather than a salesman. A mechanic will have the answer to questions like that better than a salesman anyway.

Like every trade you get good and bad.

I'm surprised you got such lousy service. Most traders want your custom the next time you buy a car and want you to tell your friends what good service you got.

Vote with your feet and buy elsewhere next time. Some of us would be happy to help out.

They are out to get your money, plan and simply. Once you paid for you car or left the lot, most of them don't care what happens, and 95% of them are asses. Good luck!
