When I was in Turkey on a tour, our tour guide was at pains to say that the Turks are NOT Arabs. He said they came from Central Asia.

Perhaps the fact that the Turks are Muslims has caused others to lump them with the Arabs.

Because we don't generally know better. It's sad, but true. However, this kind of thing happens all over the world. I'm sure that there are many people that are assumed to be from a different area than they actually are-- I know that there is often confusion over whether someone is Indian or Pakistani, Swedish or Norwegian, or Chinese or Japanese....
It just comes from a lack of familiarity, that's all.

Turks are not known as Arabs. They are different ethniclly, culturally and linquisticlly than Arabs.
