my husband wants to see if like t-mobile or cingular or some company like that has a networking sharing in iraq. that would make it cheaper to call. he can call from cafes they have set up. but he wants a cell phone

There are cell phone companies in Iraq. Ask your local military office. there is a simpler way, Try Skype or voipstunt using the internet. It is simpler and free. Clling the US to a cellphone or fixed line is free via voipstunt.

I just left Iraq. Have him get a Tri-band phone. And the service they have there is Iraqna. At the PX or whatever he has there should sell new phones that are ready to use. If he was in Kuwait before that he should be able to use his Wataniya chip.

A satellite phone is best however, most signals are intercepted or jammed due to the sensitive nature of the area. The U.S. Gvt. does not want troops to be in too much touch as they may miss being home and create deadly problems. My prayers are you and all the troops. God Bless.

there is 3 networks of cell phone working in iraq:

IRAQNA, MTC ATHER and ASIA CELL
all working in iraq but all r the same rate for calls

It needs to be a satelite phone. Troops usually have access to email and phones though they may not be able to call as often as they'd like.

no but the military have certain phones that will reach the U.S. so he should be able to call when he can
