The British monarch reigns but does not rule. The British are ruled by a parliamentary government elected every five years by universal adult suffrage.

The Elector of Hanover was asked to become King of England after the failure of the previous dynasty to produce a direct heir. However the Elector was married to or descended from one of the previous English royals so he got the job. It helped that he was Protestant. That was perhaps 250 years or more ago. His descendant, H.M. Queen Elizabeth is the daughter of a Scots lady, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, herself a descendant of the Scots King Macbeth, and the late King, who was born in the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth was born in the United Kingdom and so were most her direct ancestors, who also included people from Denmark.

In the USA, the Bush family were originally Busch, which is not quite un-German. Neither is Eisenhower. There is a pretty fair chance that the Bush family and the Eisenhower family have been in North America a shorter time than the Queen's family have been in the United Kingdom. The president rules but does not reign. So why do the Americans like to be ruled by Germans?

All the royal families of Europe are related so they have blood going back to British royals of previous ages.

Why do you keep asking Anti Royal questions? You can't say they're German anyway that's just stupid! They are a mixture of many European royal families

i presume you are german Stef, so your question has bias.

We are not ruled, they are now figure head monarchy, with elected MPs deciding on laws etc.. The Queen just puts her name to it.

Why do some people ask such un-educated questions??
