I do not understand the reasoning of the last few "banana" answers. There are plenty of other tropical fruits, such as mangoes. I believe the fruit eaten the most is the mango. Interestingly, the exact same question was asked and I got the mango from it.

Apples aren't readily availible outside of climates like US's. The most eaten fruit is the mango, even if you've never tried one.

Well, I believe tropical type weather dominates most parts of the world, so I'm going with bananas.
And since the banana is the most familiar tropical fruit in non-tropical areas/highly developed countries, inhabitants are most likely to choose what they are familiar.
Bananas are probably the first fruit babies are fed. They are soft and mild tasting...

Definitely bananas, as this is a tropical fruit and the population of those latitudes is higher than those of the 'apple' countries...
And, we may just be the last generation to be able to eat bananas, as they are dwindling in supply...
