He did not say that all rich people have to sell everything and follow him. He said that to one particular man who approached him and asked him what else should he do since he already observes the law. Jesus knew that this man was heavily attached to his money and material possessions, so Jesus put him to the test to see which was more important to him. When the man heard Jesus say that he had to sell everything and follow him, what did the man do? We went away, crying, because he knew he would not sell all his things. His possessions were first in his life. That is why Jesus made the statement that it would be easier to get a camel through a needle's eye than for a rich man to get into God's kingdom. A person can be rich as long as they put God and his kingdom FIRST in his life.

You are probably mistaken. Both the rich and the poor have the right to call them Christians. Because in the Bible its written,
"For those who obeyed him, he gave them the right to become the children of God."
During this instance, he told the man to sell all his possessions so that he would not worry or think of all the worldly pleasures, but follow Jesus and lead a worthy life. But it doesn't mean that all rich people in this world must sell their wealth in order to be called Christians. Instead, they can follow in the footsteps of Jesus, obey his words and listen to whatever he says, by reading the Bible and pray to God everyday and they will be surely blessed!!!

He also said basically that wars and fighting were wrong, yet most of the wars in history stemmed from religion. Go figure.
Humans are humans. They need to believe in something... but they have a big sense of self-importance and most can never truly give their lives over to all the rules and regulations that religion asks of them. *shrugs*

This saying was appropriate at the time of Jesus. Today it has no meaning. Jesus does not exist. We can't follow him.

No he said that to ONE rich man. That doesn't mean that he said that to all rich men.

However I do believe that we must be WILLING to give all and follow him if and when we are asked.

Read Kierkegaard and find out! He will explain the discrepancy better than I ever could. It's because Christianity is not the same thing as it was in the beginning. In the beginning it was dangerous and revolutionary. Now it is simply a tradition with no meaning whatsoever.

" simply said to sell all evil powers ,
" simply said to follow his teachings ,
not said to run behind him .
