Book smarts is good but if you don't have any common sense, how are you going to adapt to the real world? So, I think it's a matter of being able to quickly adapt to social surrounding and apply it with relevant info.

I have taught children in a gifted class.
I have always told them that being intelligent or educated is not the major key to success in life!
Wisdom is the key. Which is what you are calling good old common sense, isn't it!?
But just think of a person that has both!
A wise person with education and IQ! These are the people that do great things for us all!

ideally, a combination of both. but if i had to choose, common sense. book smarts will only get you so far...common sense will, too, but i feel that it'll get you a little further

I prefer both,& feel I have achieved them by experience & schooling...Both play an important part in my life so I'm sorry I can't choose just one..=)
