Their racism is obvious and ugly towards us and with no justification. The English PEOPLE have done NOTHING to the SCOTS. If they have a gripe over the past it should be with our government!

English killed Scots. Scots killed English. Many, many, many years ago. English don't care anymore, Scots have chips on their shoulders and should split from the UK saving the English a whole load of money!! Then they'd lose their free University education, better healthcare etc. etc. Ha!!

It stems back to the mists of time .. the English (Sassenachs to Scots - which actually means foreigners) are considered by many Scots as "The old enemy" as France is the "Old alliance" these factors have many sources, but the most prominent is the wars between the Caledonians (Scots) and the Sassenachs (mainly English) which were exacerbated after the rising of the Scots under William Wallace and the greatest harm and perpetuation of the 'hatred' (which is light hearted in most cases)
was after the Battle of Culloden when the English Army (containing a fair number of Scots) slaughtered every Scotsman and woman on or near the battle field and for days after ravaged and pillaged the whole region. Hardly something any government can undo these days.. and my wife is Scots and I am half Scots and English in one family branch so we are at peace, until it comes to football

Scots hating the English is not racism.

Some Scots hold animosity toward the English because England conquered Scotland brutally oppressed Scots and Scottish culture until the act of union was passed.

hundreds of years of history and bias against one another. it's been going on since the time of the Romans.

every one north of Hadrian's wall was a barbarian (i.e. Scots) every one south of the wall was civilized.

I have been to Scotland and England many times. And I don't think the hate is as blatant as you seem to be claiming, then again I am not english, so my perspective may be slightly off base.

You have to remember the Scots have been subject to English rule for centuries, they are always treated as second class citizens, and hell, even their money which is identical to the money in England is not accepted in London because it says bank of Scotland on the bills (yes it happened to me, I had to go to a bank and exchange the bills before some shops allowed me to spend them).

You are absolutely right the Scot's Problem is with the government of England... But it is the People of England who put that government in to power and keep it in office and don't force a change.

I am sorry if you have been on the receiving end of bigotry from the Scots. Racism and Bigotry is unacceptable on any level. But if you want a change you have to step up and demand a change.

But you are fighting hundreds of years of persecution and animosity.

only thing I can recommend is make friends on both sides of the border, show them you believe that they are equal on every level and don't let your hurt feelings about some bigot's treatment of you cloud your judgment or feelings.

Best of luck friend.

I have lived in Scotland since I was baby but my parents were English( my dad was in the Navy)
I have never picked up a Scottish accent and there is a definite undercurrent of suspicion when people first meet you but they are OK when they get to know you.

It's just human nature to single out whats different it doesn't matter if it's accent or skin colour. It seems to me that the same thing goes on in parts of England. The Northerners think the southerners are stuck up and the southerners think the northerners all have flat caps and whippets.

Two points:

1) Ever heard of the adage "Old wounds run deep?" We know that Scotland and England had a bloody history of conflict, hate, and discord. Which ran for AGES. You just can't IMPOSE on them to kiss and make up. That would be pretentiously haughty of you.

2) This enmity you speak of is more of a social and cultural issue. Sure, we have Scotsmen clamoring for independence, but that's not the case. What we're dealing here is the "racism", and its implications/consequences to Anglo-Scottish social relations.

its all fair in love and war.

Both nations have been cruel to each other for centuries. It all boils down to the fact that the english almost hunted the haggis to the point of extinction and the scots are jealous of the english weather.

The most bit scottish fighting, was between rival clans, like in Glencoe etc..

they don't want their own Parliament to run their own health/education etc but continue using the British Paliament as if it was solely an English Parliament-and the BBC are not blameless-they report matters on English educution/health as if they were British(UK) MATTERS.This causes daily resentment. Also England has a much larger population than Scotland and Scottish interests(which are naturally different) get swamped in present unsatisfactory setup.

Obviously you need to read the story of William Wallace or watch the movie Brave-heart.The movie is more fabricated because of Hollywood, but this is a true story.
