Ok, here's the deal. As far back as I can remember, I have been a very shy person. During High School I'd react strangely to social situations, and have extreme difficulty holding a conversation. People would view me as cold and aloof, which isn't how I really am. I would always feel that people were judging me or thinking the worst of me. I was a perfectionist with my school work. Now I've left school, I find that I hate going out of my house; i coerce my partner into doing the shopping and bill paying.
I've come to realise it isn't normal, and have even researched it a bit and come to the conclusion it is either Avoidant Personality Disorder or simply social anxiety.
I am afraid to go and see a Doctor, because I feel that they are going to tell me nothing is wrong or that I am a hypochondriac.
Does anyone have any suggestions that have helped them improve on their own? Does anyone have any experiences to share? Or should I just get someone I know to force me into going to a Dr?

You need to seek help. You sound like you might have Agoraphobia.
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder which primarily consists of the fear of experiencing a difficult or embarrassing situation from which the sufferer cannot escape.
Agoraphobics may experience severe panic attacks in situations where they feel trapped, insecure, out of control, or too far from their personal comfort zone. In severe cases, an agoraphobic may be confined not only to their home, but to one or two rooms, and they may even become bed-bound, or a recluse.
Agoraphobics are often extremely sensitized to their own bodily sensations, subconsciously over-reacting to perfectly normal events. For example, the exertion involved in climbing a flight of stairs may trigger a full-blown panic attack, because it increases the heartbeat and breathing rate, which the agoraphobic interprets as the start of a panic attack instead of a normal fluctuation.
Please seek professional help, there are treatments and meds available!! This is nothing to be ashamed of.

i in my view could get a 2nd opinion whilst it is composed of something like that. some years in the past i became advised I had SIX cavities that mandatory to be crammed. day after at present I went in and had ONE crammed and not in any respect scheduled an appointment for the others. a pair of year later I went to a sparkling dentist, and became fulling anticipating him to inform me I had a minimum of 5 cavities (left over from no longer having them crammed formerly). think of my marvel whilst i became advised I had NO cavities. considering then i've got been to the dentist distinctive circumstances, have had NO cavities the two time, yet have chronic problems with the hollow area that the unique dentist did fill. i could actual get a 2nd opinion, yet perhaps that's merely by means of fact I lack have faith considering that have. wish this helps. :-)

You could call and talk to a nurse or Dr. and ask what they would do? For example this could be a simple chemical imbalance and with little medication you could be back to your old self! shy is okay but being a hermit is on the verge of angorphobia where you NEVER leave the house! Yes do see someone or at least call and talk to someone- Good luck-

You do need to got to a Doctor. You are right that the first four or five you visit will tell you that you are worrying about nothing. Ask for a referal to someone who will take you more seriously.

If you do not have the willingness to go out in public or face your fears then yes seek help...You are the one in control of your mind & body, once you lose that control it is time to seek help from others to regain that inner strength...It is not important what others may think of you,you must be happy in who you are.

No. Honey, YOU are in charge whether you realize it or not. You wrote "I coerce" which is willful and you wrote "get someone to" which is willful also. You ARE making decisions for yourself. If you take advantage of people or make them Take Care of You they are going to Resent You for It!! Go Forward and Don't Pause.
You don't want to be like a stalled car, do you? A car in Neutral?
