when hollow bodied instruments made in the 60's fall apart so easily? What makes these so different?

Stradivari made more than 1,100 instruments in all (violins, guitars, celli, etc). Only about 650 of these instruments survive today. That is only slightly over half. Besides, many of his instruments were kept safe by collectors such a Vuilliame and Count Cozio back in the day. And now they're so prized, any one who can afford one is probably either a musuem, a successful musician, or connoisseur. All of whom will take the utmost care of the instrument.
