God has given us free agency. That means if Your Dad decides to cheat with this cheap woman he has that choice and God doesn't take that away from him, so praying for this experience to stop wont help. You can pray for other things, understanding, forgiveness, love, whatever you need to help you get through this.
I don't have a good answer about the prayer because it is hard to sum up a lifetime of experiences. Someone in my life hurt me and the power of prayer isn't always immediate. I can say that I have experienced the power of prayer. I can elaborate more if you want

God gives three answers- yes no and later. If you experience the power of prayer then you have experienced a yes answer.
Yes, I have experienced it. More than once. One time it was instant and another it took several weeks of prayer. It depends on what it is and how it works in God's plan for your life. Maybe your father being driven to do this to cause you to do something in your life or so you recognize it later in your life. Who knows. Keep praying and sooner or later your answer will be clear to you.

I've always been terribly skeptical about the effectiveness of prayer and feeling anything other than like I was simply talking to myself.
However, one night a couple of years ago, I was terribly distraught about some things that were happening in my life. Because I felt I had nowhere else to turn, I got down on my knees and prayed, and as I did so, I felt a sense of clarity, relief, and comfort, and I clearly heard a voice telling me not to worry anymore. To this day, when I get upset over this particular issue, I can recall that comfort, warmth and safety and get back into a good frame of mind.
I know it sounds pretty hokey, but it happened to me, and I always had been the first to call BS on people with similar stories. Perhaps it was all in my head; I prefer to think it was God.

By praying! If you're confused about something before you pray, and then "magically" you get an idea afterwords, thats God talking to you and your soul. Praying helps a lot, even if you don't get the answer you want, or feel that you got an answer at all. Just trust God...all the way.

No...i was never religious. Nothing wrong with praying though. I am not sure what i believe now. But...when I was little I prayed that this girl I really didn't like would move and she did. That was pretty strange.......

I want, I do, I get.
I think prayer is to ask for what we "want", and supporting our daily quest of "do". Thus we "get" what we want.
