Whats probably wrong: Windows needs a mini program that lets the system know how to work each part of the computer, in this case the sound.

What to do:
Find out the model of your computer and go to the manufacturer's website and download that software for the model.

What you are looking for is called an "Audio Driver".

That should do it.

Go to your "my computer" icon and right click. Select manage, then device manager in the console that pops up. Check to see if there are any yellow question marks or red x'd out devices. This would indicate you need drivers for those devices. This is most likely your problem, you just need to install audio drivers.

its almost certainly that your comp needs either the motherboard audio drivers or the audio card drivers depending on which u are trying to use. if u cant determine the make of either u will find that u can use some manufacturers drivers with other makes of audio so give some a try but if they dont work u should uninstall them before installing another.... your welcome!
