Actually, some years ago, by mistake once I touched the backside rods of a refrigerator and got shocked. I am not sure whether that was due to some fault in the refrigerator or every refrigerator has that risk. Till then I never dared to touch the backside rods of a refrigerator.

If your answer is yes, then tell me how much shock does the person experience. Does he die or get paralysed or get a big shock or just have a minor shock. Give complete details.

Yesterday my brother was going to touch the backside rods of our refrigerator. I suddenly stopped him. I am afraid whether this can be dangerous.

You should NEVER get shocked by touching any part of your refrigerator's exterior. If you do it indicates a problem with the "fridge". Getting shocked means you have become the "ground" ( earth for our British friends), so the refrigerator is not being properly grounded.

With today's electrical code, and highly insulated refrigerators you will not get shocked. As another has said these are the heat dissipating rods, and you may, however, get burned if you hold on to them too long.

If you were referring to the heat dissipating grate on the back, I touch them all the time when buying an old refrigerator. By feeling how much they warm up when the refrigerator is running I can get an idea of how well it is functioning. I have never been shocked.

Whereas this grate dissipate heat remove from the inside of the refrigerator so to cool it is a good idea to keep the grate clean. This helps the refrigerator work more efficiently.

You sound suicidal. Please do not touch the back of the fridge or allow others to do so. It is facing the wall for a reason.
