here's my delema ... i've never found a good foundation that works for me and i really don't think my skin tone is uncommon. I can't afford department store brands and it's gotten to the point where i just don't even wear foundation anymore. i need something for a special occassion. i hate that Loreal True Match (tried 4 different shades) don't like any of the Cover Girl or that Dream Matte Mousse stuff. really don't want to buy something i'm just gonna throw away.

you need to try a variety of brands to find the best match for your skin; you may also need different summer and winter foundation shades.

It really depends how fair you are or how suntanned.

Try Almay

Almay Nearly Naked Liquid Makeup for Normal/Combo Skin
you may need ivory, buff or naked in the light shades
depending on your suntan - you may need to go into the light/medium shades

About True Match - you absolutely have to take a friend along - and place the card up to your face next to the jawline then have your friend match the shade - you can't see it yourself - it doesn't work to use the shade of your wrist or back of your hand or arm.

If I could talk you into trying a department store makeover - just a makeover - go to Macy's - wonderful variety of cosmetic counter sections - while you get made over - you can get beauty tips and shade matching - try the Estee Lauder counter -

If you have consultants near you, try Mary Kay - get a personal makeover - give a home makeover party and invite your friends before your special occasion.

you can also get a virtual makeover on MaryKay.com

I'm not a Mary Kay consultant though I recommend them often enough - I enjoy the products as well. One of my favorites of their products is Mary Kay Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20.

One more recommendation - if at all possible for you...

Try bareMineral makeup - if you have BareEscentuals or Sephora in your shopping mall - go get a makeover and try bareMinerals.

I love Quo (at Shoppers Drug Mart). I have really fair skin, and they actually have shades to match it. My skin is also acne prone, but their stuff has never made me break out. The price can run a little high, but because its a Shopper Drug Mart house brand, they should have some samples (maybe that way, you won't even actually have to buy it!)
