Sometimes we buy signed books for cheap from somewhere like play.com, hold on to them for a while and then sell them for quite a good profit. You'd have to do your research though to see if it would be worth your while.
I also know a lady who buys designer gear from charity shops to sell and makes about £1k a month but it is virtually a full time job.

I've always thought that art must be a good profit maker. You get cheap canvases, mass produce commercial looking stuff for people's bedrooms who aren't really into "art". Sell them for £150 a canvas and bob's your uncle.
