Clothes, movies, food, malls, food chains, technolgy, etc. are assets of no culture in the world. They are developmental phenomena and bound to be accepted by all if really helpful.
However when it comes to ethical values, we are losing it. Not by accepting the western culture, but by accepting things without studying them properly. In fact, the acceptance is more due to the selfish urge within us. We wanna enjoy the kind of freedom they enjoy, the rights they enjoy. But these things come with a few gul\idelines. We never accepted those guidelines. Isn't that selfish?
Another point to ponder over is that when we wear 'Om' we are fanatics, but when they wear 'Cross' it's cool. When we go to temples we are considered as backlogged but when they visit churches it's devine bliss. When we bear more then 3 children we are illiterates but when they bear 6 children it's their pride. When we light a 'diya' it's a stupid custom but when they light 'candles' it's the pefect way to reach god. When we join our hands we are primitive but when they shake hands they are modern. When we consider our elders and respect them we are stupids and when they split from their families it's necessary to leave parents behind. When we tell our women to stay in the house we are hypocrites but when thier women move out and they find time to find another partner it's liberty.
The thing is that we naver consider these things before adopting their beliefes. We blindly beleived what they believed about us but we never cared to look at the picture of hypocrisy in there...

Listen my friend, Cultures are just a way of living for a society which is massively influenced by nature and need, now at the present time the culture influencing other cultures is the Digital one, you can call it western one because of the freedom of "Exposure", and the present generation of India thinks that it is Good and Easy, so there is no need for any choices if Indian Society should adopt western culture or not, it is happening without any disturbance, but it can be changed if people of India Create new things bring new Ideas into our society instead of taking it from the west. I think we have an option but the only need is a little hard work and good understanding, people these days just don't tolerate. You know I read about Indian History a lot and I like the time of King Chandragupta Maurya and King Sudasa, you know the funny thing, at that time we were the one discovering and creating new things, but now we are at lose.

IS INDIA ADOPTING WESTERN CULTURE ?
certainly not i would say. its just that west is developed and is a few steps ahead of us, as we are a developing nation. this is the stage where inovations are done most and creativity is at its best and people become open minded because they start getting exposure.. so why do we give development the name ADOPTING... its not adopting.. first americans were like us .. they developed and changed with time.. so are we.. we r not adopting but growing with time....
and if u still think adopting is the right word the i would say this applies to west also.. even they are adoting us..
if we do certain things according to their culture, even they do certain things according to our culture..
we are ourselves...

India is not adopting western culture but some Indians. We were never against adopting foreign things. Eg: women's sari is not Indian, pajama is not Indian but we accepted it. Movies itself came from west. You know vegetables like carrot, beetroot and potato is not Indian. Nuts like coconut and cashew nut is not Indian but we accepted it. So why we worry?
