He is a nephew to Montague and a cousin and friend to Romeo. His name means well-wisher, which reflects to some degree Benvolio's role in the play as a loyal friend and a peace-maker. Benvolio attempts to stop the fight between the servants at the beginning of the play. Early in the play, Benvolio wishes to help Romeo's parents by learning from Romeo why he has been acting so strangely and trying to avoid everyone. When he questions Romeo gently and learns that his problem is lovesickness, he counsels Romeo to look at other beauties and forget about anyone who is not interested in him....

He is a pacifist or peacemaker. He is also a great link between the younger Romeo Montague and the older Montague. This way his wisdom provides not only an insight of both worlds for the audience but he is able to convey a slightly more rational and impartial view on the situations that occur

ok so Romeo is hasty (it quite is his deadly flaw). in the beginning up he's confident that he loves Rosaline yet then thoroughly forgets approximately her and declares his love for Juliet. The play occurs over a span of a pair days. immediately, he needs to marry Juliet. he's rapid to kill Tybalt which gets him banished. Then upon looking out approximately Juliet's "death" he on the instant comes to a decision to dedicate suicide. If he had of waited, he could have ordinary on the subject of the plan and him and Juliet could have been thankfully married exterior of city. by using fact he shall we his existence pass at a quickly %., it extra approximately his downfall. many people think of Romeo is romantic yet in certainty, he's immature and naive.

Benvolio is the only principal character (from his generation) who has not been consumed by the violence springing from the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets and is thus the only survivor.

He is the ultimate requirement in any Shakespearean offering!
He can see all sides, and explains to the audience, accordingly.
He helps the audience to sense the oncoming tragedy,to build the tension;just as the Nurse helps to ease the pressure as does the gate-keeper in Macbeth!
Above all Shakespeare was a master craftsman who understood humanity

He's Romeo's pal. He never really gets involved in the feud between the families; he just sticks with his friends and tries to be of service.
He has always reminded me a bit of Horatio in "Hamlet;" just a solid, sensible guy.
