I have never purchased an Nirvana album, and never will. The fact is they were the death of a style of music (80's hair metal), Cobain made it okay to not be a "guitar god" to have a good album; his playing is actually very technically challenged and quite easy.

They took the emphasis away from having a wild lick, into having a solid song that said something.

Nirvana would have been another "Stone Roses" or "Kula Shaker" if Cobain hadn't had a premature demise i.e. a couple of great albums then nothing. Myth and gossip, such as the alleged Courtney Love involvement in Kurt's death, have propelled Nirvana to legendary status.

Nirvana and Pearl Jams legend is set in stone. They single handily killed 80's Hair rock (bastards!) lol. No but seriously sure they peaked already but they changed music forever so no they would be legends even if Cobain was still alive. This is coming from someone who is not a particularly big fan of Nirvana but facts are facts.

I love Nirvana but I do think that his death went a long way to creating and maintaining the Nirvana legend. I think it is as important as the murder of Tupac in creating his mythology.
Everyone loves a martyr.

Sadly, his death did cement his place as a music legend. Along with Jim Morrison, not to mention all the others, his star will never fade. Now if only one of the Gallaghers had popped their clogs after 'What's The Story'.......!

It's like the story of Elvis. Die at the top - stay at the top.

I love Nirvana, but Kurt is better off dead, Imagine his baby girl growing up, watching BOTH of her parents inject death into their veins!

Just read that he was worth just $1 million at the time of his death. The overall worth of the band after his death went up to $100 million!!

If he hadn't died, Nirvana would have been just another band.

Yes I think it was crucial to their phenomena. He earns more in post death royalties than even Elvis according to the programme last sunday night. I consider myself a bit of a fan, but I think things were about to nosedive for them, and this was avoided and they were catapulted into the legend status they now have.
