its the angle you are inserting it in and are you worried, anxious and have you been using tampons for long, all this could be to do with the numbness, you may have a trapped nerve there so when you bend your hand it will go numb, see a doc

It could have something to do with the angle of the position that you are trying to insert the tampon.
