It's possible in as few as 6 but more reasonably 7 years.

For undergraduate you should consider getting a Tripart degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Physics.
While getting these degrees, finish a Masters in Physics(some engineering schools have these arrangements), and study for your GREs (Most of this takes 5 years). With the well rounded base in Engineering and the completed masters, your scores on your comprehensive Engineering exams and the GREs will be your deciding factors in getting your fellowship. Pick a topic with military significance and you may find it far easier to finish your Ph.D.

Don't forget to do three internships in the summer of your Junior, Senior and second Senior years. Aim high and keep lots of backups. Those internships will be vital in getting and maintaining a job in this field for the first couple of years out.

Good luck.
