Actually, there are only eight teams in the CFL ... Ottawa folded (again!) before last season, so you have B.C., Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatchewan in the West division, and Winnipeg, Toronto, Hamilton and Montreal in the East. Three teams in each division make the playoffs ... but if the fourth-place team in one division has a better record than the third-place team in the other division, they earn a crossover playoff berth.
The main differences between Canadian football and American football: there are three downs (American football has four); you can score a single point (by kicking the ball through the endzone or making the other team down the ball in their own endzone); the field is 110 yards (American football: 100 yards); each endzone is 20 yards deep (instead of 10 in the U.S. game); the field is a little wider (I don't know by how much); and the ball is a little bigger.

Canadian football is pretty much the same as American Football...slightly different rules, otherwise it's the same thing. The CFL (Canadian Football League) usually has quite a few players that are not able to make it into the NFL (National Football league, an American League).
Players that play well in the CFL can often find themselves being offered big contracts by teams in the NFL. NFL players that have been cut by their team end up playing for the CFL. The CFL has a lilmit on the number of American players that can be on each team, there must be a certain minimum percentage of Canadian players and a maximum of American players.
There are only 9 teams in the CFL compared to the almost 30 teams in the NFL.

Canadian football is like American football but played on a longer and wider field. In American football a team gets 4 downs or chances to make 10yds, in Canadian football a team gets 3 down to make 10yds. In my opinion it is a far superior game.

Actually, you are right on both accounts. It is NORMAL football, and it is like American football.
The CFL has been around for over a hundred years, and loads longer than the NFL. That makes our league the normal one.
We have different rules and a bigger field, but the fundamentals are the same.

Its like the NFL but the talent is MUCH worse. The worst nfl team would easily crush the cfl all star team. Plus there are only 8 teams, and 6 make the playoffs...how lame.
In fact, all of the star CFL players are from the US (including all 8 of their starting QBs). I was lazy and only checked the past 15 years, but all of there grey cup mvps were Americans.

Canadian football is a lot more fun to watch. We get all the great quarterbacks from the states before they make it there.
