so I'm laying in my bed thinking about what I should be doing.... I recently took a "break" from a 4 year university! Moved back home with my parents, have struggled to find a job, or even do much more than to lay around all day! My mom wants me to finish school because they paid for it, I joined the air force without telling them and just got their blessing today! My mom is afraid she will regret her decision because I'm the baby and i will admit The Bush Administration has not been very diplomatic in its with other countries! But I'm only 20 and looking for suggestions, not idiotic ones i can think of enough of those on my own! The only reason I'm having second thoughts on the air force is because I don't want my mom to be hurt if anything happens to me! I've tried looking for a job many days in a row and have not found one, this is the first time I have ever had this issue. I tried going back to school but its not where I want to be right now but i do eventually!

Actually the Air Force is a good choice. Even though there is a strong chance you will end up in a combat zone, with good luck you will survive that and the Air Force will help you find a career path and help with college. You could do alot worse. Like laying around your parents' house until you are 30 and everyone knows for sure you are a loser. You did good to sign up!

As you said, you are 20!!! You don't have to make a permanent decision. Actually not ever! I am 55. I am on my third career. I have had a ball. When I was your age I had no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up. I almost joined the army. But the day before me signing the papers I got a call from a TV station I had applied to. I was hired for an internship in TV News and that was a 15 year strange but wonderful trip that I would not trade for anything! I now work in the field of Substance Abuse Treatment. In between all of that, I was also a cook. And I have done about 100 different jobs as well.

Enjoy yourself. You are only in your twenties for about 10 years, LOL.

By the way, you can get hurt just as easily crossing the street as doing most of the jobs in the military. Your mom will will worry about you no matter what. That is her job.

You need to take your butt back to school and force yourself to finish. The military is a great thing if you CAN"T do college. You can do college.

If you join the military, here's what will happen, you will go in do your 4 years, get out, and be in the same spot you are in right now, but with no college degree (and don't say "I'll finish it in the air force" cuz no you won't you'll party like a rock star).

Finish College, get a degree, this will help you to get a job.

First off you need to stop worrying what your parents think of you. History shows that great rulers conquered vast kingdoms before turning 21. I don't recall them getting their parents permission.

Although we would not be speaking English if it weren't for our Military, this is probably the worst idea you have ever had. You will be trained to kill (even indirectly) people and I really don't think you want to do or were taught that. Don't be scared to be overwhelmed with your life because that is a normal feeling. Try to find your grove in something that interests you close to your friends and family. Try everything! Imagine that innocent child born in a bombed out hut in Afghanistan that will never have 1% of what you have in your life. Don't run away from your life and throw it away. Embrace it! Good luck!

ack... why did you go to college and then join the airforce? If your not going in to be a pilot the airforce is good for experience in the job market and college money... you may as well get experience in the job market hands on as a civilian lol. At least then you can choose where u want to live and what you want to do. If you signed those papers though don't even bother second guessing yourself because its too late.
LOL airforce isn't going to be in a combat zone if your not a pilot lol AIRFORCE not MARINES lol you'll be maybe based in a not so fun area but not in a redzone. Hell even here in the US civilian private security companies are taking over the guard positions at the base gates so you don't even have to worry about getting ran over stopping a drunk driver from comming in the gate hahaha.

You should try to do an internship in the field of your studies. Learn more about the day-to-day duties and see if thats still the field that you want to persuit. You could also arrange a session with a career counsellor and have them do an asessment on what your attributes are and what part time paths to choose. Life is filled with opportunity and you only live once!
