i sent my ex an email and told him 'i miss you' and sent a pic of him and i and he tryed calling me at work but i wasnt there coz im on holidays and then he ended emailing me and saying 'hi how you goinnn....Long time" what does this mean???

So you are trying to rekindle with you ex and he responded (which is positive and implies he us unattached) so now you question it?
You know the guy, We dont dont.
Stop playing games with him. Straight out ask him out if thats your intent.

This can mean:
-How you keeping without being sexually active without him (if you had a sexual relationship)
-How is life treating you since the break up?
-Could be showing you that he classifies you as just a friend.
