Unless I'm mistaken the definition of sanctimonious is feigning piety or righteousness. In that case it would be Madonna, who pulls publicity stunts in order to keep herself in the limelight. Bono is genuinely doing the good work he does because he believes in his causes.

Madonna. She seems to be all about publicity, as someone else mentioned. Bono genuinely cares. I know he comes off as pompous at times, but that's just him. He definitely doesn't think he's better than anyone else.
