what are the advantages and disadvantages of an CD ROM DRIVE

CD ROM DRIVe only can run cd . so now as there is DVD everywhere cd is no use..also cant write or back up our data on cdromdrive so its useless

There are no advantages. Also don't buy anything with "ROM" in it. These days the price differential between ROM and RW (read-only as opposed to Read/Write) is so small that it's not worth thinking about.
Get a DVD R/W drive that can also create CDs - that's your best option.

CD Rom main useage is by its portability to store and carry data with cheaper rate. Now a days dvd are becoming very popular but it is somewhat costlier. So Cd Rom is the best portable media.It is major disadvantage is its unability to recover data after it is lost it may be by physical damage or file damage

The advantages of a CD writer is you can back up data easily the disadvantages are you can only use Cd's you can't burn DVD's so a DVD writer is preferred but a CD writer is better than nothing.

There are NO advantages. Everything is DVD nowadays. A DVD drive will play doth dvd and cd, a CD drive wont play DVD's

advantages of cdrom against what... a floppy?
cdrom is of no use anymore, everything is DVD today, a DVD burner s costing about 50dls, double layer and 16x speed rate, so why to worry in giving us an old CDrom drive, donate it to a museum.
and also, it burns and reads common CDs at all rates
