Without a doubt. Alot of their songs have sociological topics. Do some research on the lyrics and see for yourself. I also recommend "Making of Dark Side of the Moon". Waters and Gilmour elaborate on the lyrics on the record.
The album "Animals" is an analysis of different types of people in society. Pigs = money hungry and self served, Dogs = power mad and destructive, Sheep = those who are pawns of all others and don't care or realize it.
AND yes, as the first poster C J stated, alot of the music is drug influenced - however alot of mind expansion and inntrospection came from the early drug use that lead to alot of the themes in their songs.
"Welcome to the Machine" is fairly self-explanatory in its title and has some really great songs on it as well. "The Wall" is partially biographical, but deals with an individual conflict with success, drugs, his past, his withdraw from society because of all of the afore-mentioned..."The Wall" draws a TON of philosohical parallels.
Study the lyrics for yourself and come to your own conclusion - you may learn something about yourself in the process!
TOOL, Radiohead, and many others follow a similar path just maybe not the same as far as the sound goes.

Sure, in the sense that they, like other artists, could stand outside society and observe. From those observations came the lyrics, and with their music came those lyrics. Most of the Prog Rock genre bands of the late 60s and early 70s had their feet grounded in the Philosophical/Intellectual tradition. Compared to these bands and their works - a lot of music/lyrics today seem borderline illiterate. See Triumvirat as well.

not too much, but yes you could see a little intellectualism in some of their song lyrics-i don't know about the music itself.
Our LAdy Peace is one band that always talks about Philosophy encompassing this circle called life, man, and God. Raine Maida wrote 99% of the songs.
Switchfoot, is tailending them, well aside from the fact that they are hot, hot, hot lol, their song lyrics are very high on intellectualism too.

Yes. More philosophical actually. I think "The Doors" could be another one and maybe Eric Clapton. There may be others that don't come to mind right now.

To any too youthful the album "The Wall" replaced right into a reliable place to start up in case you have under no circumstances listened to purple Floyd.. pay attention to the words of "yet another Brick in the Wall" the angst of dropping his father who replaced into in the militia is his soreness for all to pay attention.
