I'm curious, were they very different to how they had portrayed themselves?

I've met quite a few of my internet friends in real life actually. They were basically about the same. Believe it or not,Not everybody you meet on the internet is someone's perverted uncle posing as a girl.

They may not be different from the way they portray themselves, but they may be quite different from the way YOU imagined THEM to be (and vice versa).

There is bound to be at least a little disparity (and in many cases a lot), between the Internet person and the Real person. They're both the same person of course, but obviously, the Real person is "bigger" and more important.

The best thing is to just be prepared for that discrepancy, and not be too quick to judge. There will be a short (at least) adjustment phase. So just take it all in stride.

Yep, and he was pretty much just as he had described of himself, physically anyhow. However, mentally and emotionally was a completely different story. This person made his own weapons (many of them illegal) and has an arsenal of knives and guns that fills a 6' x 8' closet from top to bottom. Was he making up for inadequacies in other areas or what? He loves to get into brawls, it's a hobby. Needless to say, I keep my distance even though we do still speak occasionally to one another. To the flip side, some of my friends have met some internet acquaintances in person and they seem to be who they said they were!

I am a pastor of a ministry on the internet called Shattered Men. I have met several in person. (Actually it is close to a couple of dozen but I hope that we can have a real life retreat for many of the groups I am in and we can meet hundreds of those we have met on the internet.

No, they were not different then what they protrayed.

Yes ! Last weekend I was in line at a large sporting event and just chatting with someone in front of me they mentioned yahoo and I asked if they knew about answers. Turns out we had answered each others questions . They seemed just like they said they were.

Nope I'm not a loser, or a whore. I value my life and wouldn't want to risk it on some person who fed me a line of crap on the internet.
