I was in elementary school from 1967-1974. We had prayer in our public school.

Hey Scruffycat, I remember when nurse's came to our school to give shots. If they were giving them shots, my Mom made sure I got whatever one they were giving.

Hey, me too!! Same years, no less! I have some memories of those years... even some vivid memories... but I have NO recollection of whether we prayed or not. I grew up Jewish, so I pretty much blocked out all things Gentile... and back then, any praying done, was done in a "Gentile" way.

I remember nurses going classroom to classroom with their rolling carts of vaccinations... and the kids who needed shots screaming and wailing when it was their turn... my dad was an Air Force doctor, so we got to go to his office and let him give us our shots, himself.

But prayer totally escapes me... Now, in high school, I remember we would have a prayer before the start of every football game.

Never. I started 1st grade in a public school in 1984. The closest thing to a prayer was the Pledge of Allegiance. We had that 'moment of silence' thing which may have been for silent prayer but I never knew what it was for then, plus I wasn't religious anyway. No one ever mentioned God though we did do special arts and crafts projects for Easter and Christmas.

When I was in Montessori school for 3 years of Pre-K and Kindergarten we celebrated Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and learned about Native American spiritualism. We were always lighting candles for something back then.

I went to a private school and we had an extra half hour a day than the public school for a relegion class. Fat lot of good that did for me. That was from 86 - 92.

We did not. I was in 5th or 6th grade when they took it out. I remember having to go outside in the hallway to pray. I also remember how I couldn't beleive they could do that to us. I still think that.
