I heard somebody say long time ago that every part of the human body can be traced back to the earth - like water and iron etc and that everything comes from the earth etc etc. Does anybody know what this is?

Yes, most systems at work are of a cyclic nature. The human body is composed of various elemental chemicals, such as hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon etc. When we die, our bodies decompose and these chemical elements return to the earth. The earth is nourished and plants grow, which in turn oxygenate the atmosphere, provide food for peopls and for animals which people eat - who in turn die and and their bodies decompose, etc.

The various minerals of the earth also undergo cycles - rocks erode, or are pushed deep below the earth's crust and are melted into magma, only to erupt from volcanoes, or be pumped back into the earth's crust under the sea millions of years later. These rocks are eventually exposed and make up the earth's surface, where crops grow etc.

Pretty much everything is interconnected in this way and has been undergoing such cycles for at least 4bn years. The Earth is about 4.6bn years old - the first 600million years was a bit shaky and we cannot be certain that the cyclic nature of everything was fully in place, what with all the asteroid strikes and gas explosions going on.

Rocks exist today that can be shown to be around the 3bn year mark. 3-4bn years ago era is just a pretty strong likelihood that the same stuff was going on.

As every living thing on earth is made of carbon atoms, there is every chance that some of the material used to make you has also been used to make a dinosaur, a diamond and/or a cabbage in its time.

We are all earth. Everything you see, feel, touch, breath, comes from this planet. You can't create matter. It takes peices of earth in one form to build another form. When we die, we decompose and break into particles that can be reused to make something else. The Earth isn't growing because dead bodies are adding to the overall mass of the planet.... the particles that make up these bodies don't come from thin air, it comes from the food people eat. Cells grow and divide into new cells because it is transforming food particles into new tissue. This is why we are what we eat, we literally change the food into new cells for our body. The food ultimately comes from plants, and plants get their nutrition from the earth. When we die... plants eat us.

117 elements , solids, liquids and gases make each and every living and non living beings. Humans also. Iron is a metal and water is a compound containing hydrogen and oxygen.
Even heavenly bodies are made of these elements.
In living beings every chemical contains carbon . Carbon containing chemicals are called "organic".

It's the circle of life haven't you seen the lion king!

Ugh:

Mufasa: Everything you see exists together, in a delicate
balance. As king, you need to understand that balance,
and respect all the creatures-- from the crawling ant
to the leaping antelope.

Simba: But, Dad, don't we eat the antelope?

Mufasa: Yes, Simba, but let me explain. When we die, our
bodies become the grass. And the antelope eat the
grass. And so we are all connected in the great Circle
of Life.

it simply means, that you are, every tiny little bit of you, is made of something you ate.

If you ate an animal, it was made from something it ate,
if the animal eats animals, its prey mostlikely ate plants.
if the animal eats plants, its made from plants.
plants 'eat' from the soil they stand on.

so everything you eat, was, atleast some time, earth.

when you die. you will decompose, and eventually turn to soil, whichplants then use to grow.

completing the circle of life.

Well in science it is called the law of conservation of mass.

The law of conservation of mass states that mass can not be created nor can it be destroyed, it can merely change forms.

To a point.

The machine that is created from the earth and surroundings did not come from the earth.

The mud did not tell itself to grow a tree.
