Basic economic theories say while crime does add to an economy (in fact it has been said that up to 10% of the U.S. GDP comes from crime) in the end crime takes more than it gives. High crime means we pay more in insurance, leaving us less disposable income, unlike banks insurance money stays in vaults as over head and does not add to the economy. In addition if we never had to fork out so much money buying security guards we could spend that extra cash on buying cloths for instance which would save our local textile industry and ultimately make cloths cheaper for us giving us more money to spend on something else....economic multipliers (as long as the industry can keep up with demand, but this goes into "economy of scale" theory which the textile industry can't meet). The increase in textile industry would also increase companies like retails, or fabric produces (security companies can not fall into this category as the do not effectively supply or purchase goods from other markets), which it turn pay wages and ppl can use the wages to buy other things, another economic multiplier. Of course, image what else ppl could buy with out having to spend money on counselling.

If some one steals something, like a car, that product is effectively taken out of the economy; the criminal does not pay tax on his gains. Also the car in the normal economy could be sold multiply times on the second hand market, the govt. would get tax for the car sold and additional tax when the seller buys a new car, often an upgrade (instead of a cheaper one his insurance would allow him to buy) giving the govt. a higher tax payout.
If cars are stolen it also increases the demand for new cars meaning that South Africa has to import more cars (remember our car factories in South Africa only assemble the cars the parts still need to be imported) increasing our trade deficit, also if car manufactures can not keep up with demand, the price of cars will increase.
When someone steals they not only steal from that person they steal from society as a whole, if the govt. gained so much from crime then why is it illegal (I am not talking about the difficulty in capturing, or our often ineffective police but about crime as regards to the law).
There are many other negative effects of crime that you can find out if you look in economic books (things like the economic cost of crime)

Well that says it all, not so, now we know why no one is going out of their way to stop crime running rampant in SA. its profitable.

and the thing is - until people do start making government answerable it won't stop!

You are right we all need to ask different questions - demand to be protected and to feel safe within the borders of our own land!

Spot on.
Clear as daylight to those who are not under the blinding spell of the anc.
The same thing has been said a number of times on this forum and elsewhere.
Soon the monster the anc is rearing will turn on its masters, though. Maybe that's why Thabo is building a R90 million wall...

The cost of living in South Africa is exorbitant, so expensive in fact that at times you are demanded to pay with your life.
The whites have been trying to negotiate policies with the ANC for years, and it has only gotten worse.
It's a sick society and sometimes one has to step outside and look at it all with a fresh perspective.
There is no point in going down with a sinking ship, that went out of fashion in Zimbabwe.

Good luck

Not only South African Government any Government in world looking for tax for good incoming business., and this is the reason and for any government if any innocent people suffered for their mistakes like not providing good security to them (eg. Hijaking) they want to give remedy to innocent people.

And they give the tax money to development of their own country like providing power, water, security, roads, Improving quality of life, health and etc., this is the reason every country collecting tax.

Someone posted it in response to a question of mine and I gave her best answer. For months I have been saying that the ANC are criminals masquerading as a legitimate Government and that SA has a crime economy but I am told I've got it all wrong.Again I say only when you get rid of the ANC and the washed out old guard will you be able to commence democracy. They are plundering your Country and taking you into unholy alliances with some of the World's worst despots and human rights abusers. I just hope you get the opportunity to do it through the ballot box.
