Certainly it is compactly built (despite it's bulky looking physique). It is the top predator with the appropriate
1. weight (to pin down its prey)
2. power (energy to chase and bring down the prey over small distances)
3. camouflage (to hide for a closer ambush).

Can you imagine that the bulky looking lioness can hide in 1 feet high grass. It does actually. African lions are perfect killing machines in the African savannahs.
