It seems (to me, an non-Brit), that there is some tension between Britain and her old territories (America, India, Israel, etc.), especially on the English side. Is this real or just paranoia? Thanks!

Yes and I agree. I think so too.

I watched a documentary on M. Thatcher once that had the transcript of a conversation she had with Reagan. In that conversation, she was very upset at the loss of global power and influence Britain had been experiencing.

She went on to say, "I want to make Britain GREAT again."

The major decline of Britain can be marked by the date they had to give Hong Kong back after the 100 year agreement. That's my opinion and observation. Once that was completed, it's like Britain has fallen off a cliff.

No because Britain still has financial and political ties with all of the above mentioned nations I consider the Brits good allies maybe a little snooty but not jealous as apposed to the french who I consider both snooty and extremely jealous people

im Canadian and i have a couple Brit buddies, theres no problem.i also knew a girl who went to London for a year and she said it was easy getting papers cuz we have a good relationship with the Brits.the doors swing open when youre Canadian.but,we got our independence thru diplomacy.the americans, with help from the natives and french, simply wore down the loyalists until Britain decided it was too lengthy and costly to bother hanging all the traitors, and so the united states was born.americans sneer at their own draftees that fled to Canada to avoid serving in the un-just war in vietnam(that they lost)yet they have no problem with the fact that america was founded by traitors to the British flag.so if the Brits sneer at americans,i figure thats fair.

Britain is still maintaining its relations with its former territories and is supportive of their actions particularly against terrorists.

That's what happens when Britain thinks everyone is a "peasant" and we should serve their queen. Sooner or later, the natives are going to get restless and throw you out! And they did. And if they don't like that, then maybe they ought to learn how to fight better!

I doubt the British care.

shasta604@yahoo.ca, nice way of turning this into an American-bashing question. Canadians have a one-track mind, huh?
