How is the job prospect of actuary in Malaysia ?

I m an actuarial science student, recently having some conflicts with my parents because they said actuary in Malaysia doesnt have a wide job prospect because most companies do not have the ability or necessity to employ actuary...is that true?
will that actuary in Malaysia have a good future?

my lecturer said to me a few years back, actuary degree holder has better job oppurtinity than engineering degree holder. puls the salary rate is much higher.

You are so lucky to have parents that care about your study and future. This is indeep a blessing. Many parents in Malaysia do not know what their chidren are study about.

Actuary has good career prospect in Malaysia because our financial industry e.g. insurance industry is in the liberalization process. Foreign insurance companies are very aggresive in finding joint venture business partners with local insurance companies.

Recently, Berjaya General Insurance (BGI) Berhad formed joint venture with SOMPO Japan Insurance Corporation. (Please find out other joint venture happening in Malaysia and share with your coursemates - help me, please!)

We have to open our financial industry because of globalization. Bank Negara Malaysia aims to open the financial industry by 2008. When market is open, Insurance premium rate, for example need to adjust according or even free to adjust according to market demand by the insurance company (a free market). I foresee many actuaries are needed when insurance rate is going to change.
