Hopefully, that they are compassionate and interested in helping others that can't help themselves because they are ill.

I hope the income isn't all they are looking at because there are too many people dealing with the public that needs to be behind closed doors. Seriously, the income may look attractive as a lump sum, but if you break it down based on the number of hours some of them work, it doesn't come out to be that much an hour!

The nursing shortage began in 1978 and hasn't recovered since that time. Nurses are in high demand (particularly male nurses) as there aren't that many that are going to school for this profession. Why? It's hard work and it's stressful, and you have to love people to do it based on these factors.

Most go in not knowing what the real job of nursing is ..they look at the income , they never think about the high risk of contracting an airborne disease , body fluid contamination ,such as urine, blood ,and fecal matter getting on them , they never think about having to watch a young child or someone they know die in front of them , that is why if a class of future nurses has 30 people to get certified ..five years later there may be 5 maybe 10 people from that class still working in the medical field ..
Nursing is really in demand because there are so few who can actually tough it out and deal with the horrible reality that goes with the job and the true duties of the professional nurse ,, most go in thinking it will be like on TV ((scrubs )) then reality hits ,and they don't want it anymore, thus creating the turn over rate and increasing the demand not counting the tax money wasted on scholarships and grants , all because some naive teenager thought it was a fun job like on TV...................

My mom was a registered nurse and it was the best gift I could have growing up as a severe asthmatic.

She really enjoyed being a nurse (she's now retired) mainly because she liked helping people, liked working in a team, and making it easier on families coping with a loved one about to die or really sick.

In college I was a scab worker at a nursing home in the middle of no where with 20 of my friends from the swim team. No one wanted to be the nurse, so they trained me for an hour and made me into a nurse(they were all on strike). It was pretty nuts and we were not permitted to leave the premises. So for 3 and a half weeks, I didn't leave the nursing home. I called my mom to tell her that I had the upmost respect because it was hard work. I had a woman die on me in the first 2 hours on the job.
