I have a PS1 but now that the PS2 is out, it is virtually impossible to purchase games for the PS1.
Yesterday I bought a PS2 but I now see that the PS3 will use blu-ray disks. This makes me wonder if, a few months from now, I will again be left with a console which never has any new game releases.
Will this be the case, and if so, why do they do this?

Yes, but it will be a slow process of phasing out the PS2 and switching over to PS3. They want you to keep spending more and more money on their products and they do that by releasing new product lines. You should have many years of play time ahead. Playstation 1 was introduced in 1995 and PS2 was released in 2000.

For right now ya aint got anything 2 worry about the PS3 is so overpriced with the bugs they still have to work out and the unkept promises they made about it, that the PS2 will still keep going for a bit longer. Yes PS1 games are no longer in production but ya can find alot on ebay and if your lucky at a pawn shop. Best place would be ebay.

They will eventually stop producing PS2 games, yes.

But it won't be for a while. Sony needs to compete in the new console generation of the 360 and Wii, so they need to use a console that is comparable. Hence, the PS3.

Obviously the PS2 is very cheap now, and so are games for it. I suppose games will be in shorter and shorter supply as time goes on.

God bless.
