my pediatrician said that when i make my son a bottle, i need to use bottled water.....he is on a special formula for colic baby's.

i have not used the bottled stuff yet...mainly b/c i cant see paying for WATER!!!! when i have it running out of the tap for free (we have well-water, so yes, its free)

If i decide to start using the bottled stuff...i will buy it in the Gallon size (like milk comes in) - Does it have to be refrigerated???

You could also buy a water filter. You can buy the type you put on the faucet or the pitcher type.

Well water isn't your regular tap water - it carries much more bacteria because it has not been filtered. That is probably why the pediatrician recommended the bottled water. If you are uncomfortable with using the bottled water, than you should ALWAYS boil the tap water before mixing it into your baby's formula.

When i had my son i used the bottled baby water with flouride in it that was in the gallon sized containers. Refrigeration was optional, since water does not spoil. Also since making a bottle with ice cold water involves heating, which can be hazordous if not done correctly, i found it convient to just leave it at room tempeture. Alos tap water may contain things that are not good for your baby just out the box immune system. Most of these waters cost just as much as your average name brand soft drink, so just do it and know that you contributed in everyway to your babies health.

I wouldn't even use bottled water, but even if you do make sure it is FULLY BOILED AND THEN COOLED before using it. If you don't do this then you put your baby at risk from things like gastrointeritis and tummy ache. Also don't use repeated boiled water, make sure it is fresh every time. To be quite honest I don't know WHY you have been advised to use bottled water, it sits about on shelves in storage for months before it makes it to our shelves! If you really don't want to use your tap water then maybe buy a water filter machine, at least you can filter FRESH water then.

Don't put your water in the fridge. Buy Dasani (its about 5 bucks for a case of 24 @ walmart)

Or you can buy something called "nursey water" its about 2 dollars per gallon. If your babies doc says he needs bottleed water, then he NEEDS bottled water. I'm sure you can spare a few extra dollars a month to make sure your son gets the proper water in his bottle.

Room temp water is best, I woulnd't heat it up untill its in the bottle. And when you do heat it up, place it in a cup of hot water. no microwaves!!!! :)

Boil your water for 5 minutes & it will be ok for your baby to drink. Bottled water is not always free of little nasties & also needs to be boiled so i think your doctor has given you incorrect information. Don't ever give your baby unboiled water at his age as it could cause him to become very unwell. 5 minutes boiling will ensure all nasties are killed.
